»February's Movie Round Up

Time for February's movie round up! I opted for a picspam of each movie this month instead of all that text. You can find links to trailers as well as a few of my comments under each spam. Remember, these are just the movies I watched for the first time this month, you can view all the movies here.

Sappy love movie based on a novel by Nicholas Sparks (whose others books turned movies were total sob fests), bring your damn kleenex movie goers or use your sleeve. Sorry, but seeing this in a theater was a terrible idea because I honestly was more annoyed by the sniffling surrounding me than I was touched by the movie. Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried are both extremely talented actors whom I loved in other projects and both were great here as well. It is a touching love story, but I found the father-son relationship more interesting at times. Very visually pretty though. Good soundtrack. (Trailer)

An action movie... my expectations were met on that front. Of course, there's Channing (again), Joseph Gordon Levitt, Christopher Eccleston, and the dude who played Darth Maul in Star Wars and Edgar in the latest season of Heroes (Ray Park is his name) to make it maybe better than it is. (Trailer)

Such a stunning movie! Such a gorgeous visual treat! Fabulous acting, although for some reason I take issue with the Abbie Cornish and Ben Whishaw pairing... they had chemistry but I didn't feel they had that spark, you know? Other than that, I loved this movie. It reminds me a great deal of Becoming Jane (another great movie, starring Anne Hathaway and James McAvoy) probably because it is one of those untold (or unheard) stories of a famous author/poet's real life, this time its John Keats in comparison to Jane Austen in the aforementioned. (Trailer)

Okay, I had been wanting to see this movie for so long, my expectations were quite high. I love Carrey Mulligan (ever since I first saw her in an episode of Doctor Who) and her performance, alone, would make the whole movie worth it for me. I find I tend to like movies with actors I like regardless of the actual movie so I may be biased here but its a really beautiful film. I believe the story and the choices the main character, Jenny (Mulligan) must make are still relevant today. I, myself, was torn over her decision regarding school, or "having fun." Pluses include Olivia Williams and Emma Thompson among others and a lovely soundtrack. (Trailer)

Cute, quirky love story, self-improvement story. I don't really see a whole lot of difference to the characters Jennifer Aniston plays but she's talented nonetheless. And Steve Zahn! This guy is so funny and also really talented. His character is really awkward but that's half his charm so you root for him. I enjoyed it. (Trailer)

It's a creepy sort of genius that I loved. The animation was really amazing - Coraline's expressions are hilarious; the moments that are real-life looking one minute and then totally bizarre, out of this world, straight from a dream the next are really cool. Plus, I had a LOL moment when Wybie was wearing gloves that I've seen Kristen Stewart and Nikki Reed wear. (Trailer)

Quirky, comic, con movie. Funny and talented cast. One of those films where you're constantly trying to guess if it's real or if it's fake (a con). I really enjoyed watching this one. (Trailer)

I had watched a trailer for this quite a while ago and then it was on TV the other day so I made myself sit down and watch it and I'm really glad I did. The lead actor (Andrew Garfield) was also in a two part episode of Doctor Who and I thought his acting solid in that and especially, most definitely, in this movie. A really interesting and original film following a young man starting his life over after having committed a crime in his youth. The premise is quite controversial but that is what makes the movie, I think. The journey of Jack had me fascinated, he was complex and felt like a really real character. If I had someone to talk to about this movie, I would have a hard time stopping, I have so many thoughts on it. (Trailer)

Just a quick note, also, I'm not really the greatest with advice or reviews so if you find the above comments lacking, I find no real shock in that. They are just my thoughts and opinions, and if I recommend anything, it's that you watch the trailers (at least) and/or movies yourself before making a decision...

I'll have a post about the books I read this month in a couple days. Stay tuned.
